Anja's Introduction

Hi y’all! My name is Anja. I’m a freshman at CSUN this fall with a major in Music Industry Studies.
As I grew more serious about my love for music in high school, I realized that there is a big difference in how women are treated from men in the music industry. I quickly noticed that female fans are usually labeled “groupies” or “fangirls”, most bands with a frontwoman fall into the category of female fronted band, and many female musicians are transformed into sex symbols with mellifluous voices. I heard stories of women who were told “no groupies allowed backstage before the concert” because women who hang around musicians are automatically assumed to be looking for sex rather than working for the band.
These realizations morphed into a broader awareness of how women are portrayed in the media. My goal here is to raise awareness of how women are portrayed and perceived by the media and to fight for equality. This is an issue that can no longer be ignored.
Thank you to anyone who reads this blog. I hope what I have to say will some sort of impact.
